Frequently Asked Questions

What is paint correction?

At its heart, paint correction is the process of removing microscopic imperfections from a vehicle's clear coat to restore a smooth, flawless, and reflective finish.
Imagine looking at a beautiful mountain range from a distance. It looks smooth, right? But up close, you see all the peaks and valleys. Your car's paint is similar. To the naked eye, it might look fine, but under a light, you'll see a web of tiny scratches, swirls, and blemishes. These are the "valleys." Paint correction carefully levels the "peaks" down to the depth of the deepest scratch, creating a perfectly flat, mirror-like surface.
Here's how it's done, step-by-step.
Step 1: Decontamination (The Deep Clean 🧼)
Before you can fix the paint, you have to get it surgically clean. You can't polish a dirty surface; you'll just grind the dirt in and make things worse! This is the most critical prep work.
* The Wash: This isn't your average drive-thru car wash. It's a meticulous hand wash, often using the "two-bucket method" (one for soapy water, one for rinsing the wash mitt) to prevent adding new scratches.
* Chemical Decontamination: After washing, special chemicals are used to dissolve bonded contaminants. An iron remover, for example, will spray on clear and turn purple as it reacts with and dissolves tiny iron particles (like brake dust) embedded in your paint.
* Mechanical Decontamination: This is the clay bar step. A detailing clay bar is a soft, pliable resin that you glide across the lubricated paint surface. It gently plucks out any remaining embedded contaminants—like tree sap, road tar, and industrial fallout—that the wash couldn't remove. If you run your hand over the paint inside a plastic baggie before and after this step, the difference is stunning. It goes from feeling like sandpaper to feeling like glass.
Step 2: The Correction (The Main Event ✨)
This is where the magic happens. Here, we use a machine polisher, special pads, and abrasive liquids (compounds and polishes) to level the clear coat.
* Compounding (The Heavy Lifting): This is the first and most aggressive stage. We use a compound, which is a liquid with a higher concentration of abrasives, paired with a more aggressive "cutting" pad (often made of foam or microfiber). The goal here is to remove the most serious defects: swirl marks, light-to-medium scratches, and water spots. This step does the heavy leveling but will leave behind its own very fine haze or micro-marring.
* Polishing (The Finishing Touch): This is the refining stage. We switch to a much finer polish and a soft "finishing" pad. This step removes the haze left behind by the compounding stage and burnishes the paint to an incredible level of gloss and clarity. This is what creates that deep, "wet" look that makes the paint color pop.
During this entire process, a detailer will constantly use very bright, specialized lights to inspect their work, ensuring all defects are being safely and effectively removed.
Step 3: Protection (Locking in the Perfection 🛡️)
You've just spent hours creating a perfect surface; now you have to protect it! The fresh, corrected paint is completely bare and needs a new defensive layer.
* The Panel Wipe: The car is carefully wiped down with an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution. This removes all the polishing oils left over from the correction step, ensuring the surface is sterile and ready for the final protective layer to bond properly.
* Apply Protection: A high-quality layer of protection is applied. This can be a traditional carnauba wax, a longer-lasting paint sealant, or the most durable option, a ceramic coating.
And that's it! You've taken a dull, scratched surface and restored it to a flawless, highly reflective finish. It's a labor-intensive process that requires skill and patience, but the results completely transform a vehicle's appearance.

What is a ceramic coating?

A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds with your car's factory paint, creating a durable, transparent, and hard layer of protection. Think of it as a semi-permanent, sacrificial shield for your vehicle's surface.
Key Benefits:
* Superior Protection: Guards your car's paint from UV rays that cause fading, chemical stains from bird droppings and bug guts, and minor scratches.
* Effortless Cleaning: The coating is hydrophobic, meaning it repels water and dirt. This keeps the car cleaner for longer and makes washing significantly easier.
* Enhanced Gloss: It fills microscopic imperfections in the paint, resulting in a deep, reflective shine that makes the color pop.
* Long-Lasting Durability: A single application can last for years, offering far more longevity than traditional waxes or sealants which typically last only a few months.
